Farm Management

Paul Sproule

Paul Sproule is an NDSU Ag Econ alum and has many years of farming and agri-business experience.  He has a deep passion for agriculture and enjoys seeing how the latest technology & innovative techniques can make the farm more sustainable, improve yields, and provide cost-saving efficiencies.

Paul provides overall direction for the business with his primary areas of responsibility including marketing crops, risk management, crop insurance needs and financial functions for Sproule Farms.  However, Paul’s favorite place to be on the farm is spending time in the tractor. Outside of the farm, Paul enjoys spending time with his wife Susie, three daughters, and their ever growing families.

Michael Sproule

Michael Sproule provides overall direction on the farm regarding crop rotation & selection, agronomy coordination with regards to seed, fertilizer & chemical analysis and applications if needed, and equipment, shop & employee management.  Michael always has his ear to the ground on new things coming to the ag industry, and is very receptive to trying to new practices and introducing different crops to the farm.

Michael, along with the Sproule Farms’ team, use their skills to perform cost-benefit analyses to decide best application and implemtation to push the farm forward. Outside of the farm, Michael can be found at the local baseball diamond or hockey rink with his wife Lisa cheering on their two sons.

Cultivating Our Community

How We Work

At Sproule Farms, we understand the importance of our community.

That’s why a big part of how we work is what we do in our community. Whether we operate in your county, town, or the field next door, we are focused on being stewards of the land and the people who live here.

Each year, we look to find new and innovative ways to impact the region we live and work. We believe you reap what you sow, and we are focused and determined on sowing impactful seeds in our community.

Cans 4 Corn

Coming upon our 10th year, we partner with our local Salvation Army on an event we call Cans 4 Corn. Each year, we plant over 1.5 acres of fresh sweet corn, which when the time is right and the sweet corn is ripe, we invite the community out for a grand one day event. In exchange for a canned good or monetary donation, visitors are able to experience picking thier own fresh sweet corn straight from the field or select from pre-picked piles. This event continues to grow increasingly year over year with more food and monetary gifts being distributed back into our community. We greatly appreciate the communities generosity and the joy an event such as this brings to visitors.

A 30 year old partnership that was started on a handshake, Neumiller-Sproule Farms produces potatoes that goes fresh straight to a processing plant. Innovative Farming & Business

Our Technology

Innovative Farming & Business

We at Sproule Farms pride ourselves on staying on the cutting edge of new & innovative farming and business practices.

We are fully integrated with a variety of technologies which allow us to monitor real-time activities on our farm to become as efficient and cost effective as possible.

Precision Planting provides us with a variety of technologies and products to improve our production and the monitoring of our crop. From planting to harvest, Precision Planting products can be found in the tractor cab on our iPads and on our desktops. Here are a few of the products we use every day.

20/20 SeedSense – SeedSense allows us to accurately track many of the variables you encounter during the planting season including down force, seed population, singulation, spacing and more. Tie in the various planter upgrades and FieldView Pro and we can monitor every seed that passes through the planter.

FieldView – Rainfall to nitrogen levels, field health to yield data; all can be accessed through Fieldview. We use this product extensively throughout the growing season and into harvest. As shown below, we monitor our field health from planting to harvest and use this data to increase our knowledge and decrease the variabilities associated with farming.

Our farm spans a wide distance from north to south and Razor Tracking helps us keep tabs on where everyone and everything is. Our equipment is equipped with these tracking devices which gather all types of data.

Razor Tracking documents the hours on our tractors and the miles on our vehicles while alerting us when certain maintenance is required.

This has become an important piece of our efficiency and our efforts to minimize downtime. Razor Tracking allows us to track the location, average speed, idle time and stop time on our equipment.

We partner with Conservis, a leading software provider with deep experience developing and implementing ISO compliance, tracking, traceability and performance management.

This software and partnership allows us to reduce costs, grow revenues, manage risk and eliminate compliance headaches.

This tool keeps us as efficient as possible with its automatic record keeping, compliance activities, core farm operating processes and reduces the pain associated with in-field and back office farm record keeping.

The Conservis partnership does all of this for us to ensure that we can interact with our crop insurance agent, ag lenders, landlords and other stakeholders.

While technology is important, genetics and agronomy advancements play a larger role in our farms success. We find ourselves located near one of the premier agronomy research schools in the country, North Dakota State University. Their research of genetics, ag profitability, farming techniques, etc. are tremendous resources we utilize frequently.

You Are Only As Good As Your Tools

Our Equipment

At Sproule Farms, we take pride in our equipment, holding each truck, tractor and implement to the highest standards for operation. While you may find some green, yellow, or blue implements in our fields, we operate with primarily CaseIH equipment and have since our inception. We have a long-standing relationship with CaseIH, and know that their equipment is powerful, simple, smart, tough, reliable and most importantly proven for performance.

They have millions of field hours, along with thousands of products, to suite all of our needs. An additional reason we’ve chosen red, are the good people at Titan Machinery in Northwood, ND; a partnership cultivated over more than 20 years.
